Tanya Mia
Tanya Mia believes that cosmetology is a service but art and science as well! Creating hair styles for over 20 years as a licensed professional in California, she began in San Diego. Tanya mia is greatful for her year plus apprenticing under the very talented artists of A Robert Cromean’s Salon. These world class stylists taught her how to work with extraordinary hair textures and introduced her to the creative chemistry and Art of hair color. She enjoys doing dry cuts for curly hair of all races, especially mixed-race! She is keen with razoring and textured cuts for asian hair and even fine hair. She also excels in supernatural colors. Her cuts are designed to grow out gracefully and based on the individual’s lifestyle and social ques. Queer hair cuts have been another satisfying part of her work. Ultimately her goal is to help the client present their individual hair texture and the best version of themselves to society clearly. That may be low maintenance yearly health trims or monthly rainbow variations. Tanya Mia views hair cutting and coloring as a form of subtractive sculpture and painting on a living medium. Her particularly sculptural approach to cutting hair is not mathematical and is not for everone. She also believes that life is long and impermanent and part of the fun as we change over time is having different hair styles as well as trying different stylists. We promote poly-hair-amy and do not get mad when you need to move on or come back. She moved to the bay area in 2003 and began the Pirate Salon. After working for a salon that was typical of the beauty industry she wanted an alternative to the pressure to sell products and give the trendy cuts. Also as a way to preserve her body from repetitive stress injuries, keep costs lower than average for her skill level and save water she came up with the DIY shampoo and style stations where you wash and style your own hair. Of course we have all the necessary supplies and you’re welcome to bring a shampoo helper. Welcome to the Pirate Salon!
